What's the Point of a Sauna?

I used to think people did it to sweat as an aid to weight loss, but all sweating does is rid your body of water, and you can become dehydrated. Sitting and sweating isn’t burning any significant amount of calories. So, why do it? Does it relax muscles because of the heat? Kind of confused about the point…

Oh, and give me an amen if you’re sick of people asking how they can lose x amount of pounds in x amount of time. Start exercising and stop eating so damn much! What kind of answer are they hoping for? :)

saunas help you relax. especially if you are sore from working out.

and yes, the "can i lose 10 pounds before tomorrow so i can wear a bikini to the beach" questions are annoying.

It opens your pores and relaxes the muscles. Chances are, you won’t lose much weight from sitting in a sauna. However, it is wonderful to sit in a sauna after a good workout.

The sauna does get rid of the excess water when you sweat and also the heat and bubbles stimulate your mucles which does burn a few calories, but of course not as much as if you exercise.
