My Cat Prefers to Hang Out in the Sweltering Garage. Huh?

It’s over 90 degrees here, and humid. Our indoor/outdoor cat prefers to spend most of the day stretched out on top of the car inside the boiling hot garage. Seriously, it’s like a sauna in there. She’s a somewhat long-haired cat, and she CAN’T be comfortable in that heat, can she? I bring her in and she immediately begs to go out in that sweatbox. Who can explain this oddball behavior?

Not sure – honestly I think cats are just weird.

    It’s normal.

This is only speculation, but the domestic house cats ancestors (ie lions and tigers and leopards… everything I can think of except maybe the lynx or mountain lion), live in very hot places. Africa, India- I understand those place can be oppressively hot. Perhaps she’s getting back to her jungle roots?

Maybe she has kittens up there. Who knows?

A cat’s body temp is higher than a human’s. So – what you consider sweltering – maybe NOT swelter to cat.
