Does a Sauna Make You Lose Weight? Gym Exercise to Lose 16lbs?

I am hoping to lose a minimum of 16 pounds by May 24th, 2009. Can you please tell me what I should be doing at the gym and how often a week I should be going. This is about an 8 week goal.

It seems like the elliptical burns more calories than the treadmill, is this true?

How long should I be doing on the elliptical per gym session and what else should I do? also how long should i stay in the sauna… will it help?

the elliptical is an awesome workout for someone that hates running on a treadmill(me). i worked up to 30 min and that is when i lost the most amount of weight. but i had to work up to 30 min. then i walked on the treadmill for 15 min and did 15 min of weights and abs.

the sauna sucks. i understand what i does but its just soooo hot in there and you cant really breathe. its hard to stay in there even 10 min and it did not help me lose weight.

sauna does help you but not much b/c it only takes out the water in your body. you should go 2 gym at least 3-4 times a week. Its better if u go more though but dnt kill ur self. Eat healthy..no junk nd exercise and run a lot. nd it dsnt matter how u run or its with treadmill or not…just run and do da right exercises.

Not sure about elliptical but sauna does helps.
The only simple way to loose weight fast is to raise your metabolism, to burn more fat. The temperature of your body environment affects your metabolism. If it is very cold or very hot, the rate of metabolism is found to go up by about 20%. You can manipulate that temperature. You can either chill out or have a sauna to raise your metabolism.
Other things that help raise your metabolism is to eat the right food.
. not to starve yourself because your body is very intellident, it can detect when you are lack of calories from food and makes u feel sleepy to restore calories for the body.
Eat negative calories or high fiber food: Asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, lettuce & zucchini. Because these food require a lot of calories to digest so in return the more you eat the more calories you can burn without doing anything.
Fruits that are good for you are apple, grapefruit ( as much as possible , no harm ) or any other type of citrus like pomelo or orange.
Eat many small meals rather than 2 or 3 big meals. Because if u do so you will get your body to work all the time to digest the food and it will keep your body digestion up => burn more calories.
Drink a lot of green tea. Good for your health, delicious and high antioxident. Not only for weight loss but also for better looking skin.
Go to sauna or swimming, dogwalking if ur lazy. Keep yourself active even when ur lazy :-) i dont exercise but I do sauna and dogwalking and swimming.
    Spicy food help boost metabolism.
Eat more fish and beef, mincemeat . if you eat chicken dont eat the skin.
Drink omega 3 fish oil supplement to have better concentration and memory, and omega 3 fish oil helps the body to prevent restore fat.
You can check here for more explanation about this, the best article about diet and i saved it in my favorite. http://www.squidoo.com/howtoraisemetabolism
And this is not mandatory and i am not trying to sell u anything, just a good suggestion for you in case u want some supplement . what me and my sister have used is Bowtrol Colon cleanse, they offered free trial still I think, because Ive heard that from one of my friend who has just purchased it. Go here for the trial http://www.heavenlifenow.com .
I cant promise u can lose the amount of lbs u want but based on my experience , what i have done lose the most weight compared to many other ways ive tried.
    Hope it helps.
Here is one more source for u to check the calories u put in and burn when u do some activities.

Using a sauna to help with gradual weight loss is much more effective. By using the sauna in combination with diet and exercise, the individual stands a good chance of losing weight and keeping the weight off. This occurs for several reasons. One reason is that a session in the sauna helps the body sweat and remove toxins from the body. This helps the individual feel healthier and magnifies the results achieved with diet and exercise. The better the individual feels, the more apt they will be to stick with their diet and exercise regiment.

Another way that the sauna helps with weight loss is by relaxing the body after an exercise session. One of the biggest reasons why individuals quit exercising is because muscles can feel tight and uncomfortable after the workout is over. Sitting in a sauna for 30 minute relaxes the muscles and helps keep them flexible after the workout, which will make individuals more inclined to return for another exercise session. The heat from the sauna also improves blood circulation to the muscles, giving them the oxygen and nutrients that they need to repair themselves
    quickly and make them stronger.

I would say do a full workout, treadmill for about 30 minutes power walking, elliptical bike for about 15-20 minutes, light weights, crunches, leg exercises, ab workouts, etc. Spend about an hour and a half working out and i would say to do it at least 4 days a week, Following your workout go into the sauna or a hot tub to release the tension on your muscles and improve your circulation.

I’ve read that sitting in the sauna for 20 min can burn as many calories as working out for thirty.(approx 300). I’ve also read a lot of theories that it is only water and you will gain it back. But nobody disputes that you actually lose weight. Being a woman you know we don’t care if its water or fat as long as the number on the scale goes down. Also I know from experience that when you start an aggressive workout routine you will hurt. If you don’t feel anything you’re not pushing yourself far enough. The pain comes from your muscles secreting something I can’t remember the name of, but you have to drink lots of water to flush it out. The sauna helps to relax your muscles and sweating helps flush your body. Also remember if your working out you may notice the difference in the fit of your clothes b4 you see it on the scale. Here’s some math for you. You have to burn 3500 calories to lose 1 lb. 3500 cal x 16 lbs = 56,000 cal. Don’t get scared! 56,000 cal divided by 6wks(the time you have from this post til May 24th)= 9,333 cal(2.66lbs)/wk to lose. divide that by 7days=1,333 cal per day. Its simple. You need to be on a 1600 cal/day diet. 3500cal/lb – 1600cal/day diet= 1900cal of weight loss. 1900 cal/day x 7= 13,300 cal/wk or 3.8lbs weight loss/wk. 3.8lbs/wk x 6wks= 22.8 lbs. Exercising would just be a toning bonus. You get the most food for the least calories from fruits and vegetables. Keep a log of your calories for the day. Plan meals and snacks. If you don’t know the cal count don’t eat it. Hope this helps. I’m doing the same thing. I would love to know when you reach your goal. P.S. the elliptical burns about 327 cal/40min around the same as racketball/tennis or playing a game of basket ball for 30min. Dancing for 30min burns 247cal so dust off you exercise tapes 2 or 3 times a wk.
