It is really only the water weight that is excreted through sweat, and it’s generally a small amount…
also, your body must use energy to maintain it’s temperature, so that burns a tiny bit more…

If I had to guess I’d say a half hour of sauna time is equal to 10 minutes on the treadmill, so really, just the old fashioned exercise route of reducing calorie intake and increasing calorie expenditure is the best way to go…

also, don’t believe the crap about miracle diets/tricks to help you lose weight, I’ve tried them, they’re generally useless. I lost over 20 pounds in 2 months by doing this when I was 15, and kept it off.

    Good luck :D

nope just "water weight", you’ll regain it after you get something to drink.

you wont lose actual fat bc your just sitting on your butt doing nothing.. your going to lose water weight bc you sweat so much you’ll gain it back though because your body needs water and you’ll get dehydrated… It would be so nice to be able to lose it in the sauna though :) it’d make life a lot easier

    Hi Tania,
I take a hot steam (wet sauna) after my workout everyday.
I am usually in the steam room for about 15 minutes. This is after an aggressive cardio and weightlifting session so my heart rate is still elevated a bit.
During that time I lose about 2 lbs of sweat (water). I know because I drink a quart of electrolyte water while in there. My weight does not change at all and water weighs 2 lbs per quart.
I know this because I have weighed myself before entering and weighed after showering and drying off.
Unfortunately we burn very little energy in the sauna. A bit more than just sitting.
The sweating process does help move toxins through the system.
    Luck.
